Dept Store staff 'robbed' of Rs 3.75 cr, inquiry on

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Aug 10 (UNI) Uindentified persons escaped with Rs 3.75 crore after waylaying a mini-lorry belonging to a departmental store, at Vepur near Kootahkudi Railway Gate of the district this evening.

Police said three employees of the departmental store headquartered in Tiruchirapalli were taking the cash to Chennai for purchases when five men waylaid them.

They took them to a deserted spot and locked the doors before escaping with the booty.

The passersby rescued the trio and took them to the police station, however, police doubt the claims of the 'victims'.

They said there was no need to carry huge sum of cash in physically when the company could have taken a demand draft for the amount.

However, the trio was being questioned by a team of officers under SP Masanamuthu to find out the truth.
