Death toll rises to 40 in AP, 37,000 people evacuated

Hyderabad, Aug 10 (UNI) The death toll in rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh rose to 40 today and 37,509 people were evacuated from the submerged areas in the heavy rains, which lashed the State for two days due to depression in Bay of Bengal.

An fficial release here said seven people were killed in Hyderabad, eight in Nalgonda, five each in Guntur and West Godavari, four each in Ranga Reddy, East Godavari, three in Warangal, two in Krishna and one each in Medak and Vizianagaram.

The total number of houses damaged in the flood affected areas was 2685 and live-stock loss was 21. About 119 relief camps were opened and 37,509 people were rehabilitated.

Enumeration of house damages was taken up. Relief assistance of Rs 4,000 for fully damaged and Rs 3000 for severely damaged houses would be given to the families.

As on August 10, the State, as a whole, received 405.4 mm rainfall, while Coastal Andhra-- 438.6 mm, Rayalaseema-- 151.6 mm and Telangana received 498.6 mm duo to incessant rains.

Isolated heavy rains to very heavy rains were likely over Coastal Andhra and Telangana during next 48 hours, the official release added.
