Comedian Bernie Mac dies at 50

Washington, Aug 10 : Comedian Bernie Mac died early Saturday from complications due to pneumonia, his publicist has confirmed.

The Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor was suffering from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease, but his health worsened in 2005.

Last week he was admitted to a Chicago, Illinois hospital.

Mac was popular for his television series 'The Bernie Mac Show', which ran for 100 episodes and also won him a Peabody Award in 2002 as well as Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. Talking to David Letterman on his Late Show in 2007, the actor revealed that he planned to retire soon.

"I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit. I missed a lot of things, you know," Contactmusic quoted him, as telling the chat show host.
