''China had done a great injustice to Tibet''

Bangalore, Aug 10 (UNI) Former Foreign Secretary A P Venkateswaran today alleged that China had committed a great injustice by capturing Tibet by force.

''It was a great injustice done in the last century by a country by use of force. An independent peace loving country has been occupied by China, it was a double injustice done to peace loving Tibet,'' the former Ambassador to China said.

Mr Venkateshwaran was speaking at a one-day Seminar on ''Indo-China Relations vis-a-vis Tibet,'' organised by the South Zone Tibetan Settlements Solidarity Committee here.

He said even after 50 years of living in other country, Tibetan have not indulged in any violence and this shows their love for peace. Tibet has been an independent country for over 1,000 years, he added.

''When a country achieves independence, other county has no right to take away the independence through force'', he added.

However, it was happy to note that through education, the spirit of Tibetan to keep the ''flame of freedom'' was continuing.

Jnanpeeth awardee and noted Kannada writer U R Ananthmurthy, in his address, said ''I want Tibet to be a free country. Tibet is part of our civilisation. It has ancient Indian civilization.'' UNI MSP RL PM1528
