Child's death drives mother to suicide

Erode, Aug 10 (UNI) In a heartrending incident, a 45-year-old woman, unable to bear the agony caused by the death of her five-year-old girl she bore 20 years after her marriage, allegedly committed suicide in this district of Tamil Nadu today.

Police said the woman, Ayyammal, and her husband Selvaraj, who were working in a bleaching unit, were blessed with a girl child nearly 20 years after their marriage following prolonged worship in various temples.

The child, Saranya, was playing in front of her house, when she suddenly went missing last evening. Later, she was found dead in a tank near the house, they said.

Unable to bear the tragedy, Ayyammal allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her house, police added.
