BJP demands white paper on loan wavier scheme

Bhubaneswar, Aug 10 (UNI) The BJP today demanded the Centre to publish a list of farmers benefitted by its loan waiver scheme launched across the country.

BJP Krushak Morcha national president Binod Pande told newspersons here that the scheme did not cover all the farmers, adding 47 per cent of them, who used to take loan from the village money lenders, were deprived of the scheme.

Mr Pande said, at least, one farmer was comitting suicide in Vidarbha area in every eight hours before the scheme was launched and the situation remained unchanged even now.

He criticised the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for its ''anti-farmer policy'' and also termed it as ''anti-poor and anti-villager''.

The BJP leader announced that the party would organise a Padayatra in every village from September 1 to 15 to sensitise the people to the alleged anti-farmer policy of the UPA government.

''During the Padayatra, the party will demand the Centre to fix the interest on agriculture loan at four per cent, waive Rs 50,000 loan of every farmer as well as apply the loan waiver scheme after adding the loan taken from the money lenders and the bank,''Mr Pande said.

Similarly, the party would also urge for implementing the river linking system launched by the NDA government at the earliest to counter the flood and cyclone, apart from demanding supply of power at a cheaper price, according to him.

Implementation of the agriculture insurance scheme and fixation of the price of farm products would be placed among other demands, he said.
