3.50 lakh more families to benefit from Foodgrain Assistance Scheme

Raipur, Aug 10 (UNI) The number of beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Foodgrain Assistance Scheme in Chhattisgarh has increased from 33.28 lakh when it was started to 36.84 lakh, official sources said today.

Under the scheme, 35 kg rice is provided to poor families at Rs three per kg.

The government had made a provision of Rs 771 crore in the budget for the scheme. However, a further provision of Rs 174 crore was made in the supplementary budget in view of increased number of families.

In accordance to the survey, 3,98,680 ration cards are being prepared for families living below poverty line in urban areas.

So far, 3,56,661 lakh ration cards had been distributed in 110 civic bodies of the state.

This takes the number of total beneficiaries to 36.84 lakh.
