Rivers begin to overflow
Kolhapur, Aug 9 (UNI) With rains lashing the district for the last two weeks, the rivers have started overflowing, while the dams have filled to their optimum levels, irrigation department sources said today.
Sources said all the rivers, including the Panchganga, were overflowing. As a precautionary measure, the administration has sounded an alert to people residing on the river banks.
The Dudhganga dam of 25.40 tmc has filled upto 90 per cent, while Warna dam about 80 per cent and Radhanagari dam, the source of city's water, of 8.36 tmc upto 83 per cent.
The highest rainfall of 244 mm was recorded in Gaganbavada tehsil of the district during the last 24 hours. It was followed by Chandgad (132 mm) and Radhanagari (107 mm).
However, no untoward incident was reported from any parts of the district, sources added.
