Lankan with fake passport held

Chennai, Aug 9 (UNI) A Sri Lankan national was arrested for possessing a fake passport at the Anna International Airport here, police said today.

R Kumaresan (29), hailing from Jaffna in Sri Lanka, came here last night from Tiruchirapalli, where he had been staying for the last one year, to board a Chennai-Toronto Jet Airways flight.

The Immigration Authorities, on finding out that his Indian passport had a fictitious name, handed him over to the airport police.

Kumaresan confessed to the police that he had forged the passport with the help of an 'agent' in Tiruchirapalli, after paying Rs five lakh.

The 'Q' Branch police were also investigating into his possible links with the LTTE and about the 'agent' who 'arranged' the passport for him.
