Doctor couple sent to jail under PNDT Act
Hisar, Aug 9 (UNI) The District Session Judge S S Lamba today sentenced a doctor couple here to two years imprisonment for conducting pre-natal sex determination test.
Dr Mahinder Kamboj and his wife Dr Renu Kamboj were awarded two-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 each under the PNDT Act.
The case was registered after raiding their hospital on December 21, 2006. The couple was found guilty of conducting ultrasound tests to determine the sex of the unborn children.
The couple was earlier awarded three years' imprisonment by the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Hisar in January this year but they appealed to the the Session Judge against the verdict.
The Session Judge, while annoucing the decision on the appeal of the doctor couple, reduced their imprisonment by one year each.
