Centre not co-operating in flood ptotection measures to Bihar
Patna, Aug 9 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today slamed the Congress-led UPA government for its non co-operation in tackling the perennial problem of flood in the state.
Inaugurating a bridge on Bagmati river in Seohar district, Mr Kumar said the state government had completed all arrangements to meet the challenges and relief would be provided to the flood victims in time.
'' The approach of the Centre is lackadaisical in providing financial assistance to the Bihar government for flood protection measures and relief to flood victims, '' Mr Kumar said adding despite repeated requests by the state government, assistance from the Centre in this regard was dismal.
The Bihar government had spent more than Rs 3,000 crore from its own resources in flood protection measures and relief to flood victims last year, he said and assured that no victim would be allowed to suffer this year as well even if no assistance reached from the Centre.
During the past two and half years, works were being carried out to ensure development in all sectors, Mr Kumar said adding prposals for construction of bridges at Piprahighat in Sheohar and Mararghat in Belsand had been approved.
