Carriage repair workshop in Bihar to be operational from Dec-09
Harnaut, Aug 9 (UNI) The Carriage Repair Workshop being constructed with a total investment of Rs 224 crore at Harnaut in Nalanda district of Bihar would be operational by December 2009.
Chief Executive Officer of the project K B Mittal told reporters here that Periodic Over-hauling(POH) of 50 passenger carrying coaches would be carried out per month in the beginning to be gradually increased to 100 coaches.
''To ensure safety, every coach would be overhauled at regular interval of 12 to 18 months, '' he said adding the coaches were presently being sent from Bihar to Gorakhpur workshop for the purpose in absence of such facility in the state.
With a view to reducing the land requrement, high height shade with ''Coach-over-Coach transfer'' facility would be made, Mr Mittal said adding focus would be given on repair of vital component which had a direct bearing on safety as well service availability in the coach.
''Paint shop with an automated spray paint both drying oven and area for surface preparation and stencilling through hydraulic platform to improve the quality and life of the painting will be another feature of the workshop,'' he noted.
Mr Mittal said well equipped hospital, a Kendriya Vidyalaya, community hall and recreation centres would also be established for about 1260 personnel of the Railways working in the workshop.
