Trough of low pressure to trigger heavy rains in Bengal

Kolkata, Aug 8 (UNI) A low pressure area was formed over North-West Bay of Bengal and the trough extended from the centre of the system to East-Central Bay of Bengal, Met officials here today said.

Quoting the latest imageries and synoptic observations, the Met officials predicted heavy rain at isolated places in the districts of Howrah, Hoogly (North and South), 24 Parganas (East and West) and Midnapore during the next 48 hours.

They have also warned fishermen not to venture into sea as strong east to south easterly wind was expected with speed exceeding 45 km per hour.

South-West monsoon would be strong to vigorous over South-West Bay of Bengal and Andaman and moderate to strong over North-East Bay of Bengal, they said.

The weathermen recorded todays maximum temperature at 33.1 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal, while the minimum was pegged at 27.2 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal.
