Tibetan supporters try to storm Chinese Embassy, 100 detained

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Over 200 Tibetan supporters tried to storm the Chinese Embassy here soon after the Olympics Games were inaugurated in Beijing this evening, but were prevented by the police in time.

At least 100 of them have been detained at the Chanakyapuri police station, police said.

The supporters, shouting pro-Tibet slogans, had driven up to the Embassy in two buses around 1745 hrs. They were stopped by the Police when they tried to march through the iron barricades.

The security cordon around the Embassy had been tightened as a precaution as demonstrations by Tibetans were witnessed during the Olympic torch relay in April. Even then, protestors had attempted to enter the Rashtrapati Bhawan and Chinese Embassy by force.
