Railway revenue earnings up by 21.14 per cent during April-July

New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) Railways registered more than a 21 per cent increase in its revenue earnings during April-July this year with total approximate earnings of Rs.26397.04 crore as compared to Rs 21791.20 crore during the corresponding period last year.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 14587.55 crore to Rs. 18187.71 crore during the period, hence registering an increase of 24.68 per cent.

Similarly, the total passenger revenue earnings during first four months of the financial year 2008-09 were Rs. 7207.33 crore compared to Rs. 6331.17 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 13.84 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 659.18 crore during April-July 2008 compared to Rs. 611.87 crore during the same period last year.

An official release put the total sundry earning at Rs 342.82 crore as compared to Rs 260.61 during the same period last year.

About passenger traffic, it said a total of passengers booked during April-July 2008 was 2341.03 million compared to 2206.69 million during the same period last year.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-July 2008 was 1238.42 million and 1102.61 million compared to 1196.66 million and 1010.03 million during the same period last year, an increase of 3.49 per cent and 9.17 per cent respectively, it said.
