Two held for possessing black turmeric

Visakhapatnam, Aug 7: Two people were arrested for procuring a black turmeric from a retired forest ranger and said a Real Estate dealer in Hyderabad had promised to give them Rs five lakh as Commission, if they could get ten kg of black turmeric from the forest ranger.

Police said the accused were identified as S Srrinivasa Rao of Sadasivapeta in Medak District and T Poornachandraa Rao of Hyderabad. Black turmeric was a rare specie and it was on the verge of extinction. Hence its possession was prohibited.

The accused and the seized material would be handed over to the forest department for further action, police added.
