Trinamool ready to discuss with Tatas: Mamata

Kolkata, Aug 7 (UNI) Iterating that she was not averse to industry, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today said her party was ready to have discussion with the Tatas regarding their small car factory at Singur.

Addressing mediapersons here, Ms Banerjee, however, demanded that the proposal should have come from the Tatas.

'' We are ready to discuss the Singur issue with the Tatas provided they take an initiative. We are not against industrial development. A miscampaign is on by vested interests to project us as anti-industry, '' she observed.

Reiterating her demand of returning 400 acre of land to the farmers in Singur, Ms Banerjee claimed that of the 1000 acre of land given to Tatas, 600 acre of land were adequate enough for setting up the car factory and hence the rest should be given back.

In addition to the car factory, she said Tatas also wanted to set up ancilliary industries, and the 400 acre of land were acquired for the purpose which was not an welcome move.

Referring to the fire in the Writers' Buildings during the day, she alleged that the incident was politically motivated and demanded a CBI inquiry into it.

'' The State Secretariat is the most important administrative unit in West Bengal and important documents are kept there. The fire in the Writers' Buildings is definitely a major incident and CBI should inquire into it, '' she opined.
