New Takht head for stern steps to check Sacha Sauda activities
Amritsar, Aug 7 (UNI) Giani Gurbachan Singh who was today installed as Jathedar of the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhism, called for taking stringent steps to check the 'anti'Sikh activities of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh.
"I call upon the Central Governemt and those of Punjab and Haryana to take adequate measures to check the activities of the Dera chief which could disturb the peace in the region", he declared at a media conference here soon after his installation ceremony in the Golden Temple complex here.
Asked whether he would propose any action against the Dera head, Jathedar Gurbachan Singh quipped, " he is already facing trial in various cases".
Questioned about the possibilities of a patch up with Sacha Sauda, the Jathedar made it clear that if such a proposal is made by the Dera head, it would be discussed in a meeting of the Jathedars of the five Sikh Takhts. " The Akal Takht has always stood for peace and amity and for preserving the dignity of the Sikh community", he added.
