MPHC no to stay on deeds distribution
Jabalpur, Aug 7 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court today declined to stay the state government's distribution of title deeds that is to get underway tomorrow under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest-Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 and Rules 2007.
Chief Justice A K Pattnaik and Justice Ajit Singh heard a public interest petition by Betul district-resident Kallu Singh Adivasi and directed issuance of notices to the Centre and principal secretaries of the state Forests, Revenue and Tribal Welfare departments.
The plea said that disputes were underway in several places over whether land plots belonged to the Revenue or Forests department.
The petitioner was represented by Advocate Naman Nagrath while Deputy Advocate-General Vijay Shukla argued on behalf of the government.
