HAU advises farmers to sow rape-seeds in vacant fields
Hisar, Aug 7 (UNI) The agriculture specialists of Haryana Agricultural University have advised the farmers to sow rape-seeds crop over the fields falling vacant after harvesting of fodder and vegetable crops in the end of August.
The rape-seeds crop could be sown in the last week of August upto first week of September over irrigated areas when fodder and vegetable crops are harvested, rendering the fields vacant.
"The utilisation of fields by growing rape-seeds crop will not only accrue additional income to the farmers but also increase the production of oil seeds in the state," they said.
The agriculture specialists have recommended Sangam, TL-15 and TH-68 varieties of rape-seeds to get higher production.
The Sangam variety should be sown only when wheat crop is not to be sown on the fields, as it takes about 112 days to mature resulting in delay in sowing of wheat crop.
The specialists have recommended TL-15 and TH-68 varieties for rape-seeds-wheat cycle, as these varieties get matured in 85 to 90 days.
