Compensate fruit growers in Kashmir, Kisan Tehreek to govt
Srinagar, Aug 7 (UNI) Expressing serious concern over the loss to Kashmir fruit industry due to continuous blockade of Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the Jammu and Kashmir Kisan Tehreek (JKKT) today demanded adequate compensation to fruit growers.
In a statement, JKKT General Secretary G N Malik said fruit worth crores of rupees has been rotting because of lack of transportation to the different markets of the country.
Terming the blockade by a handful of people unfortunate, he urged the state administration that such elements needed to be isolated for peace and stability in the state.
He expressed serious concern over the shortage of essential commodities, including food grains and medicines.
He has appealed to the Governor to take all steps to ensure safety of the highway.
