BMC to seek state govt's opinion to collect patients data

Mumbai, Aug 7 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will seek opinion from the state government on the proposal to collect data of patients admitted to civic-run hospitals.

This would be done by asking the patients to produce their residential proof before being admitted to the civic hospitals here.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak said that a proposal was tabled at a meeting of the group leaders for discussion yesterday. However, a consensus could not be reached.

The commissioner said that before implementing the proposal, the corporation will seek the opinion of the state government.

Elaborating on the issue, Mr Phatak said a corporator had raised the issue that the local tax-payers were not getting proper treatment in the civic hospitals, due to the overflow of outstation patients.

It was discussed in the house and thereafter it was put for discussion before the leaders.

Mr Phatak clarified that it is just a proposal and its aim is only to collect data of patients from Maharashtra and other states who are availing of medical facilities here.
