Attack on Muslims in Jammu will change India's complextion: PDP
Srinagar, Aug 7 (UNI) The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) today said ''the continuous assault on Muslims in Jammu will have disastrous implications on the nation's complexion.'' Demanding reopening of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road for trade, three senior PDP leaders Peer Mohammed Hussain, Rafi Ahmed Mir and Bashir Assad, in a joint statement, said here today that the continuous assault on Muslims is highly condemnable, which if allowed to dither, will have disastrous implications on the the country's complexion.
They said the cowardice acts of loot, arson and beating the Kashmiri drivers to death was no more tolerable and warned that ''such barbaric acts of Hindu fanatics were aimed at the disintegration of the state.'' The leaders expressed their solidarity with the fruit growers and traders of Kashmir Valley, saying they were facing losses worth crores of rupees everyday and demanded adequate compensation for them.
The PDP leaders added the demand of opening Srinagar-Muzaffraabad roads vindicate their stand and asserted Jehlum Valley road alternative was not only a solution to the present situation, but a viable solution to the economic constraint compounding the state.
''It was envisioned by the PDP leaders in 2004-05 and we believe that the Valley cannot afford to be hostage to the Hindu fanatics and economic blockades,'' the leaders noted, adding immediate measures ought to be taken to throw the road open for trade purposes.
