AIADMK stages demonstration against police inaction

Chennai, Aug 7 (UNI) Volunteers of the Opposition AIADMK today staged a demonstration, protesting against the ''police inaction'' to prevent ''mysterious killings'' in the city and the DMK government's alleged failure to maintain law and order in the state.

Carrying party flags and placards, the volunteers, led by AIADMK Presidium Chairman and former Minister E Madhusoodanan, raised slogans against the police for failing to crack down on the ''psycho killers.'' Mr Madhusoodanan said the people of the city were living in fear as the ''mysterious killings'' continued unabated and accused the police of failing to put an end to it.

He alleged that the arrest of four people in connection with the killings was only an eye-wash, as the police was trying to mislead the people.

Though the police claimed initially that it was ''psycho killings,'' it has now come to light that they were murders for gain, he claimed.

Alleging deterioration of law and order, he said murders, smuggling of rice meant for Public Distribution System and looting of sand had become routine after the DMK came to power in 2006.

The frequent arrests of LTTE operatives in the state clearly showed that the state has become the headquarters of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), he alleged.

Calling for the agitation, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa, in a statement, had said ''psycho killer'' episode has claimed 25 lives in the city and its suburbs, but the police remained clueless.
