Universities non-teaching to go on strike on Aug 20

Gulbarga, Aug 6 (UNI) Non-teaching employees of 183 Universities in the country will stage a one-day strike on August 20 demanding representation in the University Grants Commission's Pay Review Committee, All India University Employees Confederation (AIUEC) General Secretary M B Sajjan said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that Confederation had been demanding the government, among other things, representation to non-teaching staff in Senate and Syndicate, in the UGC Pay Review Committee, to fill up vacant posts and to remove the negative and discrimination features in the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

Mr Sajjan deplored that many Universities of late engaging non-teaching staff on contract basis and not filling vacant posts.

He said that a massive rally would be held in New Delhi in front of the Parlaiment on December four demanding fulfilment of long pending demands, UNI DP MSP RKN1216
