Universities' non-teaching staff to go on strike Aug 20

Gulbarga, Karnataka, Aug 6 (UNI) Non-teaching employees of 183 Universities in the country will stage a one-day strike on August 20 demanding representation in the University Grants Commission's (UGC) Pay Review Committee, All India University Employees Confederation (AIUEC) General Secretary M B Sajjan said today.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said the Confederation had been demanding to the government, among other things, representation to non-teaching staff in Senate, Syndicate and UGC Pay Review Committee, filling up vacant posts and removing negative and discriminatory features in the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

Mr Sajjan said many Universities of late were engaging non-teaching staff on contract basis and were not filling up the vacant posts.

He said a massive rally would be held in New Delhi in front of Parliament on December 4 demanding fulfilment the of long pending demands.
