Two held for desecrating statues of Leaders
Karaikudi, Aug 6 (UNI) Police booked two people under Goondas Act for desecrating the statues of former Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers C N Annadurai and M G Ramanchandran, here today.
Police sources said the duo P Ramar (36) and his associate S Sivalingam (38) damaged the statues of the late Dravidian leaders in an inebriated condition on July 27, sparking protest from the opposition party AIADMK.
On the orders from Sivaganga District Collector Pankaj Kumar Bansal, the culprits were booked under Goondas Act, today.
Tamil Nadu government had issued a stern warning against those who indulge in desecration of statues after violent incidents in Southern districts, following the desecration of veteran freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar's statue in Madurai , recently.
