Guwahati, Aug 06 (UNI) Sankaracharya of Puri Swamy Adhokssjananda Devtirth today wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to remove Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra.

The Seer, who is visiting North East, wrote to Dr Singh that the Governor had been appointed with a ''design'' and was 'implementing' it to turn a peaceful region into a troubled one.

His letter came in wake of the violence in Jammy and Kashmir over the Amarnath land shrine issue.

The Sankaracharya said Governor N N Vohra was ''still acting as an intelligence man and has not dawned on him that he is a constitutional head''.

The Seer accused him of ''instigating'' the people and allowing the security forces to take law in their hands.

''I have information that they are also planning to arrest some 15 senior journalists. A local television channel was already locked as well as reporters of many national channels removed from the Jammu region,'' he said.

He also wrote that the policemen, who harassed protestors should be punished and held the Governor responsbile for all the 'excess'.

On the disputed land transfer, he asserted that land should be handed over to the Amaranth Shrine Board.

''But, that can be achieved with a cool head and dialogue between people of Kashmir valley and Jammu. Kashmiris have also realised that. However, instead of promoting dialogue, the situation is being provoked,'' he said.
