Jammu violence: 1 killed in Army firing in Kathua
Jammu, Aug 6: One person was killed and another wounded when the Army resorted to fire on protesters gathered at Palli Morh in Kathua district, while people defied curfew restrictions at many other places in the curfew-bound winter capital region of Jammu and Kashmir, demanding restoration of forest land to Sri Amarnath Shrine Board.
''Acting on the orders of the Executive Magistrate to maintain law and order, troops fired at an unlawful assembly at Palli Morh in Kathua district in which one person died and other sustained injuries,'' Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami told the sources.
The deceased had received fatal abdomen injury while the other protester received a bullet injury in his limb, sources said.
