Madras HC permits PMK partymen to meet Guru

Chennai, Aug 6 (UNI) Madras High Court today directed the Suprintendent of Central Prison, Tiruchirapalli, to permit the Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK) partymen to meet Vanniyar Sangam president Kaduvetti Guru, who is under detention under National Security Act(NSA) in that jail.

Admitting a writ petition filed by the PMK president G K Mani, Justice A Kulasekran said considering the facts, they can be permitted to see Guru.

However, it is subject to the conditions laid down in the prison manual, the Judge added.

In his petition, Mr Mani submitted that Guru was arrested by the Ariyalur district police in an abduction case and subsequently detained under NSA. The PMK MPs, MLAs and leaders went to Tiruchirapalli prison to meet him, but the prison authorities denied permission.

Mr Mani sought a direction from the court to state Public Secretary and the prison officials to permit him and his partymen to meet Guru in the prison.
