Karat requests Jaya to attend condolence meeting

Chennai, Aug 6 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat has requested AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa to participate in the condolence meeting to pay tribute to late Communist veteran Harkishan Singh Surjeet on August eight.

A release from AIADMK here said Ms Jayalalithaa, in a letter, informed Mr Karat that party MP K Malaisamy, Deputy Leader of the AIADMK Parliamentary Party, would attend the condolence meeting on her behalf.

Similarly, the party nominated party MP, Dr V Maitreyan, to attend the all party meeting, convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the release said.

On behalf of the Prime Minister, Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs requested Ms Jayalalithaa to attend the meeting, scheduled for today, it said.
