C'wealth Sec-Gen on three-day visit to Singapore

Singapore, Aug 6 (UNI) Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Kamalesh Sharma is on an official visit to Singapore from August 6-8, the Foreign Affairs Ministry here said.

Mr Sharma would call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi, and would be hosted to lunch by Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo.

The Secretary-General would also deliver a public lecture at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

He was appointed the grouping's Secretary-General by Commonwealth Heads of Government at their biennial meeting in Kampala, Uganda in November last year and he took office on April 1 this year.

Mr Sharma is the first Commonwealth Secretary-General from Asia.
