Rly Official to hold inquiry into accident

Coimbatore, Aug 5 (UNI) Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Mr K J S Naidu, will hold a statutory inquiry at the Coimbatore Railway Junction on August 6 and 7 in connection with today's accident in which a lorry hit a train near Sundarapuram killing two persons and injuring 18.

A Southern Railway (SR) press release here said the lorry rammed into the Mangalore-bound Coimbatore-Mangalore Passenger leading to the fatalities.

Those passengers who suffered grievous injuries were paid Rs 5,000 each by the Railways while those with simple injuries were given Rs 500 each, a the release said.
