Bhubaneswar, Aug 05 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Navee Patnaik today urged Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh to establish a central university in Koraput for development of higher education in the KBK region.
In a letter to the Union Minister, Mr.Patnaik said since there has been less facilities for higher education in the KBK region,a Central University would remove the regional disparity in the area.
He further said the state government has identified 500 acres of land in Koraput where water, power,road and railway facilities are available.
This apart, plane landing facility was also available at Jeypore situated about 30 kms from Koraput,Mr.Patnaik said and asked the Union Minister to depute a technical expert team to Koraput so that the work for the construction of the central university would commence forthwith.
Mr.Patnaik also urged Mr.Singh to start the construction work of the proposed IIT at Bhubaneswar from this year for which the government, he said had already identified 500 acres of land.
The state government,the Chief Minister said would provide all necessary infrastructure for the prestigious institution in the state.
The centre has already sanctioned one Central University and one IIT for the state.This year the academic session for the IIT, however, would commence from the campus of the IIT Kharagpur, official sources said.
