Naveen demands more fertiliser for Orissa
Bhubaneswar, Aug 05 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today demanded supply of more fertilizer from the centre keeping in view the growing resentment among the farmers of the state.
Drawing the attention of Union Fertilizer and Chemical Minister Ram Bilas Paswan, the Chief Minister in a letter said scarcity of fertilizer during the khariff season has led to discontentment among the farmers.
As against the request of the state government to supply 9.37 lakh tonnes of fertilizer, the centre,Mr.Patnaik said had only provided 7.91 lakh tonnes of fertilizer.
He said while 38,000 tonnes of DAP fertilizer required for the state during August, the centre had only sanctioned 20,000 tonnes of fertilizer and asked the Union Minister to direct the IFFCO plant to supply the rest 18,000 tonnes of DAP fertlizer.
Mr.Patnaik further proposed to enhance the fertilizer quota for the state in August to 40,000 tonnes and submitted that the centre should supply DAP fertilizer instead of TSP fertilizer.
He regretted that the sanctioned urea fertilizer for the state for July and August had not yet reached the state and urged Mr.Paswan to personally intervene into the matter and ensure the required supply of fertilizer to the state.
