Narmada dam gets adequate security cover

Vadodara, Aug 5 (UNI) The Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) authorities have tightened the security at the main dam site at Kevadia colony, about 100 km from here, following the serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad and possible terror attack on vital installations in Gujarat.

According to SSNNL sources, the dam site had been provided adequate security keeping in view the terror incidents in Ahmedabad and Surat.

Narmada district superintendent of police Khurshid Ahmed told UNI over phone that a strong contingent of Gujarat Industrial Security Force (GISF) and local police were in place at the dam site as well as at two of its power houses for surveillance in the area.

Mr. Ahmed, however, denied having received any threat letter for the dam or had deployed commandos at the dam site fearing terror attack.

The multi-purpose 1200 meter long Sardar Sarovar Dam built over the Narmada river at Kevadia Colony, is the world's second largest in terms of volume of concrete.
