CI arrests a passenger, seizes 14 kg saffron in Airport

Kozhikode, Aug 5 (UNI) The Customs Intelligence (CI) today arrested a passenger from Sharjah for carrying 14 kg 'Kunkoomappove' (saffron) worth Rs 14 lakh at Karippur International Airport near here.

CI sources said Kasargod native Mohammed Tajuddin (36), who arrived from Sharjah in an Indian Airlines IC 598 flight was nabbed with the contraband.

On interrogation it was revealed that the accused, who went to Sharjah on a visit visa, had acted as a carrier to deliver the contraband in exchange of an air ticket for his return journey to Kozhikode, the sources said.

Mr Tajuddin will be produced before the Economic Offence Court after completion of formalities, they added.
