Apex court receives '93 blast case papers

Mumbai, Aug 5 (UNI) The papers and certified copies of the designated TADA court's orders in the 1993 blasts case have been submitted to the apex court, to enable it to hear the appeals filed by the convicts.

With the documents being handed over to the apex court, it can now constitute a a separate bench to hear the appeals filed by Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, members of the prime absconding accused Tiger Memon's family and others, sources at the TADA court told UNI here today.

Defence Advocate Mushtak Ahmed, who is representing these convicts in the Supreme Court, said the Apex court had received all the documents and he was also informed in writing to submit any documents on which defence is relying.

It may be recalled that the TADA court had convicted 100 accused out of which 12 were given death penalty and the rest were awarded punishments ranging from three years to life imprisonment.

The defence is hopeful that the bench can be constituted within three to four months after which the court will hear the appeal on a day-to-day basis.
