APCC hails SC direction on reservation

Hyderabad, Aug 5 (UNI) Hailing the Supreme Court direction allowing four per cent reservation for Muslims in educational institutions in the state, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President D Srinivas today said the Congress party was committed for the welfare of the minority communities in the state.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the Muslim students would be benefitted by the court direction. The apex court had granted conditional permission for the admissions in educational institutions from the present academic year, he added.

He said the PCC also hailed the cabinet decision of providing 33 per cent reservations for the backward classes in the Legislative Assembly and Council. The governmet had also decided to adopt a resolution in the Assembly in this regard in the coming monsoon session, he said.

Hoping that all the political parties in the state would support the resolution, he said the adopted resolution would be sent to the Centre.

He said the cabinet had also decided to bring the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (NREGP) under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act to curb corruption.

Chairman of the Party's OBC cell J Chitharanjan Das, in a statement here, congratulated the Chief Minister for recommending the Centre to reserve 33 per cent seats for backward classes in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.
