Monsoon back in UP; Met warns heavy rains in west UP
Lucknow, Aug 4 (UNI) After giving a breather to Upiites for a week, the monsoon re-visited the state with heavy rainfall at most of the divisions.
In the last 24 hours, the heavy downpour lashed at most of the places at Moradabad, Bareilly and Agra divisions.
The spells of shower after a long pause gave people some respite from hot and sultry weather, on the other hand, people at the flood-hit districts were jittery over the same.
According to Met department, in the last 24 hours, Moradabad received 8 cm of rainfall, whereas Bareilly, Mathura, Pantnagar witnessed 5 cm each.
Meanwhile, Central Water Commission reports said Ganga, Yamuna, Ghagra, Rapti, Gomti were receding and remained constant at several places.
River Ghaghra was flowing 10 cm above the danger mark, whereas at Ayodhya, Elginbridge and Turtipar it was 10, 5 and 31 cm above the red mark.
Similarly, river Sharda at Paliyakala was 18 cm, whereas, Kuano at Chandradeepghat was at 118 cm above the red mark.
Though Reports from Gorakhpur said rivers were showing downward trend at several other places, but still they posed danger to dams.
Besides, people were battling against the odds of flood and danger of water-borne diseases looming large.
Gorakhpur Divisional Commissioner P K Mohanti has issued directives to the health officials to remain in hospital till late hours and treat the ailing with commitment.
Meanwhile, leaves sanctioned to the doctors had been cancelled and mobile health services was being provided at the affected-districts, Mr Mohanti apprised today.
However, the district administration was maintaining strict vigil over the trend of rivers in flood-hit districts and relief and rescue work was on at fast pace.
According to Met department, monsoon was active over western UP heavy rainfall occurred at most of the places in Moradabad division and isolated places in Barielly division.
Besides, moderate or light rainfall occurred at many places in Agra, Kunau and Garwal divisions.
Meanwhile, the weatherman forcasts moderate to rather heavy rainfall with thunder and shower at Meerut, Barielly and Agra divisions. Besides, issued heavy rainfall warning for west UP in the next 48 hours.
