Electric train introduced in Cuttack-Paradeep section
Bhubaneswar, Aug 4 (UNI) Passenger trains with electric engines became operational from today between Cuttack and Paradeep, replacing the traditional diesel engines being used till now.
Divisional Manager, Railway, Khurda Road, R Venkadasamy flagged off the Palasa-Paradeep-Palasa via Cuttack passenger train with electric engine at Cuttack.
The electrification of the Cuttack-Paradeep double line section was completed in July at a cost of Rs 97.02 crore.
Railway sources claimed that the change over from diesel to electric engine would save approximately 15 minutes time out of a total journey period of two hours and reduce operational and manpower cost.
The railway authorities asserted that the electrification of Cuttack-Paradeep line and the operationalisation of the second railway bridge over river Mahanadi would ease traffic congestion at Cuttack and improve the punctuality of the trains considerably.
