AP Govt approves 33% reservation for BCs in Legislative bodies
Hyderabad, Aug 4 (UNI) In an effort to woo the Backward Classes in view of the coming elections in the state, the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh today approved the recommendation of the Cabinet Sub-Committee providing 33 per cent reservation to the BCs in Legislative bodies.
Briefing the press after the Cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, here, Information and Public Relations Minister A Ramanarayana Reddy said the Cabinet ratified the recommendation, submitted by the three-member Committee at the meeting.
''A resolution in this regard would be adopted in the Assembly in the coming Monsoon Session in support of 33 per cent reservation to BCs. The adopted resolution would be sent to the Centre,'' Mr Reddy said.
The Cabinet also approved inclusion of some castes in the BC list as per the proposal prepared by the State Commission for the BCs, he added.
The BCs constituted majority of the population in the state.
