TN CM sanctions Rs one lakh each to five orphaned children
Chennai, Aug 3 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced an assistance of Rs one lakh each to five children, who were orphaned by the deaths of their parents at Chidambaram in Cuddalore District.
An official release said Mr Karunanidhi sanctioned a total of Rs five lakh as assistance to Kavitha (10), Kaviarasan (7), Kaviarasi (5), Kalaichelvi (2) and a three-month old infant girl Kanimozhi.
Their mother had died in a fire accident and unable to overcome the grief, their father committed suicide by consuming pesticide, leaving his five children in distress.
Considering their age, the children and the baby were admitted to a orphanage in Cuddalore.
Expressing grief over the deaths and moved by the plight of the kids, Mr Karunanidhi sanctioned the solatium from the Chief Minister's Public Releif fund.
The amount would be deposted in the bank and the interest accrued would be given to the five children at Rs 1,000 once in three months to meet their essential expenses.
After they had attained the age of 21, the deposit amount would be handed over to them, the release added.
