Agricultural products processing is essential to create jobs: Pawar

Sangli, Maharashtra, Aug 3 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said proper processing of agricultural products along with their packing, marketing and management is essential to create job opportunities.

Mr Pawar was speaking at a function, after he inaugurated the Rajarambapu textile complex project at Islampur in the district.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil presided.

Taking into consideration the reducing agricultural land and increasing population of farmers, other job opportunities should also be created for them in the field.

Earlier, speaking at another function after inaugurating 'Krantisinh' Nana Patil Smarak, constructed by investing Rs Two crore in Kundal at Palus tehsil of the district, Mr Pawar said Union government has given priority to agriculture and all-around development of farmers and also giving them better prices for their crops.

Referring to the cash-for-vote scam in the Lok Sabha, during the UPA governments' confidence motion, Mr Pawar, who is chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), said a committee has been set-up in this connection to study the case.

Parties like the BJP create wrong propaganda about the government for political interests, forgetting that many of their MPs have been removed under various charges, he said.

State finance Minister Jayant Patil, Maharashtra co-operation Minister Patangrao Kadam and others attended these functions.
