3,000 rendered jobless after lockout in jute mill
Barrackpore, Aug 03 (UNI) Nearly 3,000 workers have been rendered jobless as the authorities of the Kelvin Jute mill near here at Titagarh in North 24 Parganas declared ''suspension of work'' in the mill.
The notice, which was issued last night, trigerred anger among the workers, who assembled at the gate and protested.
The suspension of work notice was issue by the mill authorities after a large section of the workers went on strike disrupting normal functioning of the mill, mill authorities said.
However, the agitating workers said they had observed cease work yesterday in protest against the alleged exploitation by the management, depriving them of their legitimate remuneration.
