SP MLAs, 50 others held in bid to disrupt peace in UP
Lucknow, Aug 2 (UNI) Police today arrested 50 Samajwadi Party activists, including two MLAs, who had come to sit on a dharna in the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation headquarter--Shakti Bhawan here over the ''insufficient'' power supply in Sultanpur district.
Two SP Sultanpur MLAs--Anoop Sanda and Shailendra Pratap Singh-- had announced to 'gherao' 14-floored the Shakti Bhawan building situated in the heart of the state capital.
However, they were arrested as soon as they reached the site.
The SP leaders and others were held for an attempt to disrupt peace and harmony in the city.
They have been taken to police lines, police said.
Meanwhile, Mr Sanda charged police of committing atrocity on them.
Mr Sanda said, ''We were continuously informing the power department about long power cuts in Sultanpur district since the last month, but nothing was done.'' Under the SMS drive, the concerned people were being continuously given message about the same. However, after waiting for response over a month, decision of peaceful demonstration at the power headquarters was taken, he added.
''Thus, the SP workers today reached the site, where police forcibly tried to disrupt the peaceful agitation and later, took us in their captivity, he said.
