Probe into botched eye operations held during camp

Moga, Aug 2 (UNI) Autorities have ordered an inquiry into botched-up eye operations at now locked Gurunanak Charitable Trust hospital after a camp at Bhinderkalan village in the district.

The police was looking for the absconding doctor, who conducted the operations upon 10 people, including two women, who were shortlisted after a camp on July 15. Most of the patients caught severe eye infections and were in danger of losing eyesight if not given proper treatment.

Moga Deputy Commissioner Satwant Singh Johal has directed Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr Tejinder Gupta, officiating civil surgen, to probe the matter and report to him.

Dr Gupta, who led a team of health officials to raid the hospital again today, told UNI that it was again found locked while the surgeon concerned, identified as Dr Mohammed Ajmad Khan, was also untraceable.

Interestingly, the hospital was given approval by the Moga Civil surgeon only on July 16 and it held the operations on the same day after getting O T clearance.

Mr Johal told UNI that appropriate action against the erring persons would be taken after he gets the report from the civil surgeon.
