Nuke deal would give another 8000 MW power: Jairam
Nangal, Aug 2 (UNI) Union Minister of state for Power and Commerce Jairam Ramesh today said that with the nuclear deal the country would get immediate benefit of 8,000 MW of power.
"We are planning to explore more hydropower potentials in our country". Mr Ramesh said during his visit to the Bhakra Nangal dam project of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
He further informed BBMB officials that a 150 MW hydropower project to be executed by BBMB was in the pipeline.
He also reviewed the present position of reservoirs and power availability from BBMB hydro projects. He expressed satisifaction regarding availability of water and power from BBMB during the coming year as the position of water inflows were very comfortable in the reservoirs.
As on today, the reservoir level of Bhakra Dam was 1646 feet which is 37 feet higher than the last years level. The level at Pong Dam another BBMB project was 1358 feet which is 21 feet higher than last year's level at this time of the year.
The minister was told by officials that the six power houses of BBMB having 28 generating units with total installed capacity of 2866 MW have generated 10,997 million units of electrical energy in the last one year against the target of 10,150 million units fixed by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on the basis of forecast of rains and snow melt in the catchment areas of rivers this year by the Meteorological Department of India.
