AIADMK protests power cuts

Chennai, Aug 2 (UNI) Members of the opposition AIADMK today staged a protest demonstration against power cuts in the city and other parts of Tamil Nadu.

Led by party Political Advisor and former Minsiter C Ponnaiyan, the agitators, carried laterns and candles in front of the Chennai District collectorate, to lodge their protest against power cuts.

They raised slogans against Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy and the DMK government for the sordid state of affairs in the State.

Mr Ponnaiyan attributed power cuts to administrative mismangement and corruption in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).

He said power cuts, many areas were also facing unannounced power cuts. In some of the villages, power failure even last for ten hours, he said adding this has severely hit farm activities in the state, especially in the delta districts.

Party General Secretary J Jayalalithaa, in a statement here yesterday, blamed Mr Veerasamy for power crisis in the State.

The state was facing the power crisis, because of the inefficiency of Mr Veerasamy, she charged.
