TDP to launch nation wide stir on MSP for paddy

Hyderabad, Aug 1 (UNI) The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), along with United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) constituents and other like-minded parties, will launch a nation-wide stir in protest against the recommendation of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Committee to fix the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Paddy at Rs 850 per quintal.

Addressing a press conference here, TDP Parliamentary Party leader K Yerran Naidu alleged that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Union Ministers and MPs from the state had failed to persuade the Centre to fix the MSP at Rs 1,000 per qunital.

The Commission for Costs and Prices (CACP) had suggested the Centre to fix the MSP for Paddy at Rs 1,000, he said.

Agriculture Scientist M S Swaminathan had also suggested the Centre to include 50 per cent of the cost of production in the MSP to ensure remunerative price for farmers, he added.
